Information about the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
We may collect and use your data if you are coming from the European Economic Area (EEA). In this section of our Privacy Policy, we will explain how and why this data is collected and how we protect it from unauthorized use or duplication.
What is GDPR?
GDPR is a privacy and data protection law at the EU level that regulates how companies protect the data of EU residents and enhances the control that EU residents have over their personal data.
GDPR applies to all global business companies, not just those based in the EU and EU residents. The data of our users is important regardless of their location, which is why we have implemented GDPR controls as the baseline standard for all our operations worldwide.
What is Personal Data?
Any data that relates to an identified or identifiable individual. GDPR covers a wide range of information that could identify a person either on its own or in combination with other data. Personal data goes beyond just a person’s name or email address. Some examples include financial data, political opinions, genetic data, biometric data, IP addresses, physical addresses, sexual orientation, and ethnic origin.
Data protection principles include requirements such as:
- Collected personal data must be processed fairly, lawfully, and transparently, and used only in a manner that a person could reasonably expect.
- Personal data should only be collected for a specific purpose and used solely for that purpose. Organizations must state why they need personal data when collecting it.
- Personal data should not be kept longer than necessary to fulfill its purpose.
- Individuals to whom GDPR applies have the right to access their personal data. They can also request a copy of their data, have their data updated, deleted, restricted, or transferred to another organization.
Why is GDPR important?
GDPR introduces new requirements regarding how companies should protect the personal data they collect and process. It also raises the level of accountability by increasing penalties for non-compliance. Moreover, it is simply the right thing to do. At SaiMai International, we strongly believe that your data privacy is very important, and we have already established robust security and privacy practices that exceed the requirements of this new regulation.
Rights of Data Subjects – Access, Portability, and Deletion
We are committed to helping our users fulfill the requirements of the rights of data subjects under GDPR. SaiMai International processes or stores all personal data with fully verifiable, DPA-compliant providers. We retain all conversations and personal data for up to 6 years, unless your account has been deleted. In that case, we delete the data in accordance with our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, but we will not retain it for longer than 60 days.
We understand that if you work with clients from the EU, you must be able to provide them with access, updates, retrieval, and deletion of their personal data. We are here to help! Our customer support team is available to answer any questions you may have about working with the API.
